From a functional perspective brackets are used to support a beam, ceiling ornament, or other element. From a design perspective, ornamental plaster brackets applied in support positions yield additional modifications to the look of the room - although they are not capable of providing structural support.
Ornamental plaster brackets can be used around doors, under plaster cornices to provide an additional repeating element, or as stand-alone accent pieces.
